Company ProfileIMP Pty Ltd
Underground Mining ContractorsIntroductionWe wish to introduce you to our company, IMP Pty. Ltd. Underground Mining Contractors.
IMP commenced operations in 1999 and specialises in underground coal mining contracts. We have a growing workforce of around 50 employees and the ability to access greater numbers as required for larger projects.
Our company also has a growing management structure to focus on providing a quality service in areas that we undertake. The operation is backed by a new office and workshop in Emerald where our company is based, a workshop and office in Rutherford, NSW as well as an office due to open shortly in Mackay.
Our new office in Mackay will be designed to provide Technical Services capabilities to mine sites with services ranging from Pre-feasibility and Feasibility studies to Mine Design, Mine Planning and on site Technical Services, Mine Management and Supervision. Our initial Tech Services team will consist of the Manager for the area, Mining Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers and Geologists. Our intention would be to extend this to Mine Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to support machinery selection services for the differing projects.
Since our inception IMP Pty Ltd have continued to grow and pursue our primary goal to become a quality supplier of Mine roadway development works to our clients. We have recently taken the step of purchasing numerous pieces of Development mining equipment to support this goal and currently can supply all the necessary Development equipment for two complete development units. We believe that we can grow to become one of the top five Underground Mining Contractors in Australia and eventually one of the top three.
At our home base in Emerald, provided suitable expertise and skills are available, we support the local business and industry wherever we can.
Some of the local businesses that we support are as follows;
For our new office at Rutherford, we aim to achieve the same level of local support and are looking to develop strong relationships with businesses in the area. Many of the larger equipment suppliers are already established in the area and currently provide support for our growing equipment inventory. Safety Performance
At IMP we believe that our safety performance has been very good given the hazardous nature of the tasks that we often perform. The only blemishes to our safety performance have occurred on what we consider to be low risk tasks and believe this is due to complacency. We aim to manage our people in a manner that has them focused on hazard identification and control. Our current LTIFR is running at 18 and we have previously achieved 260 days without a recordable incident at our project at Oaky No1 Mine. Safety Management Systems
Through our experience in supervision at all levels, we have developed an extensive Safety Management System to ensure the safety and health of our employees. Our system is based on the Mines Department Standard and captures all the elements and performance criteria to provide an effective system. The basis of this system lies with the operators being trained, and having the ability, to identify and manage hazards at the work place. This is supported by a focused audit process that encourages the operators to look after their own health and well being. Our system is a living document which is continually evolving to help manage complacency which we see as being one of the bigger threats to our performance. Training
Since its inception in 1999, IMP has been responsible for the training of a large number of clean skins, both for our projects and to meet the requirements of several mines. The training scheme that IMP has in place for our own new recruits has been so successful that the majority of persons trained under this scheme have now gained full time employment at local mines.
We have also developed and utilised a clean skin training program to provide permanent employees for 3 mines. This program involves the mine providing a number of new employees and IMP training these people to an advanced stage of training on most of the equipment required by the mine and allow integration into the development crews.
The program was varied depending on the mine and the number of people we had to train and were all successful, but the most successful was at Kestrel Coal where we were given our own panel and a miner driver and the clean skins. We were able to set targets for training and progress which we achieved. Our goal at the end of the program was to have all the processes taught and in place and we aimed to out produce the existing crews at the mine, which we were able to do.
Due to the employment process of the mine and the training scheme we used, almost all the employees have become valuable members of their organisation’s and a large majority now work as co-ordinators and leading hands. Our training was not only based on skills training of equipment but training of the complete development process from micro cycles through to a whole of panel process. This we believe is how to achieve successful production rates throughout these schemes and an outstanding safety record utilising the highest standards and forethought. Our management team is small and dedicated and consists of the following Key Personnel:-

IMP has recently completed a development contract at Oaky No1 Mine. The project involved the recovery of old roadways in the mine and developing headings to access remnant coal for their Second Longwall Project. The contract involved approx. 14 km of drivage which was achieved on time and under cost. The initial drivage required a single entry roadway approx 970m in length, achieved by driving equal distance from each end. The project required that we be totally self sufficient; including the installation of all our own driveheads, secondary support and ventilation devices.
IMP has provided development crews to Crinum East Mine in Emerald. This involved the initial and ongoing development of MG2 until the full time Crinum crews were available to start work in their new operation. Development Support
We are able to offer support for the following development activities;
